Sony launching surprises

The Hollywood Reportes has done an extensive interview with the CEO of Sony. He states that "In a demonstration of the swift collaborative response to consumer-driven marketplace changes that a revitalized Sony can deliver, the company soon will unveil a line of compact, portable video devices to fill the time gap before PlayStation 3 launches in Japan in March and in the U.S. a year from now."

Umm...like what? So they want to compete with the Ipod video? Why not just give more support to the PSP and make it the DS killer that so many people want it to be. The problem is the storage. Build a way for it to store more data and you'll have a winner on your hands. The PSP is a great device but lacks the content that many people want from it. I doubt if sony will be able to take the hype off of the Xbox 360 launch. It's sold out everywhere online. Sony will just have to wait until Fall of 06 to shine. But they will be competing with Nintendo for the 2006 Next-Gen spot light. And with nothing really extra specail coming from the PS3 could this be the changing of the guard?

GTA = Urban Thuggery Sim.

"And I don't think it is necessary," he continued. "At this point, GTA is the ultimate urban thuggery simulation, and you can't take a step back from that. But I sure wish they would apply the same level of design genius to something we really could show enriches the culture instead of debases it." Speaking at the Montreal International Game Summit, Warren Spector (Deus Ex, Thief) voiced his frustrations with games like GTA and his concerns for the industry as a whole. Spector believes the industry needs more creativity and fewer "mindless pathetic killfests."

Well we have to agree with that statement. We here at GMG have been gamers for a long time. And we love that fact that more and more people of color are being featured in video games. However, we've seen to many GangBan, wanna be boys in the hood clones. Some the terrible 187: Ride or Die, to GTA: San Andres, and so that wack game that featured D-12 that no one even remembers. The hood has been on blast. But we can do so much more. People of color are doctors, laywers, billionaires. We don't all live, drink, eat, and sleep guns and drugs. So it's time for the gaming industry to set up and to learn how to really play with our community. But all goes back to the fact that the industy is only %2 minority and are seriously out of touch with probably their biggest consumers.
