Nintendo Goes Old School

By Mike Street The 2004 BET Awards paid tribute to 25 years of Hip-Hop on wax with medley of old-school rappers doing their thing. Well now Nintendo is celebrating the old-school days by releasing a new retro designed version of the Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP and a collection of classic titles. The Classic NES Limited Edition Game Boy Advance SP, which sells for $100, resembles the first console Nintendo came out with in 1985. It really brings you back to Christmas morning when you opened up your first Nintendo -- complete with that weird robot packaging.

With the release of the Classic NES Limited Edition Game Boy Advance SP also comes all your favorite classic NES games. You can jump over barrels and fight that nasty gorilla in Donkey Kong. Or you can remember the time when you first met Link and save the land and princess Zelda in The Legend of Zelda. Or jump around with the wacky Mario Brothers and save the princess from the bad guys. Or even get it on and chomping in Pac Man.
Whatever your flava of gaming you will be taken back in time and enjoy every minute of it. All the classic titles retail for about $19.99 and are all worth getting to kill some time on the subway or on a long drive.

Game Preview: Driv3rs Ed

by Eazy Street,
Alright, you know what, I'm sick and tired of all these GTA look alikes and the fact that they are only half as good. There's Streets of L.A., Mafia and The Simpsons Hit and Run. Well, Hit and Run was kinda good, but that besides the point. The latest look like is Driv3r (Driver 3). It a pretty good game. The only difference between Driv3r and Grand Theft Auto is that you're not stuck in one city, You're in three countries.Wow!
Ok, here's the story. You play Tanner aka "the Driver" and he joins a gang of car thieves. The thieves attempt to ship 40 of the world's most expensive cars to a mysterious international buyer. Meanwhile you're also a undercover cop who is trying to find out who this buyer is. So basically you're working for and against the car gang and you must use your skills in driving and firearms to infiltrate your way into the gang and then find out how to stop them.
We have to warn you, if your not really a big fan of movies and long cut scenes, you might find this a little boring. You can skip thru the scenes, but you will miss half the story and you won't know what you're doing. Every time you start playing the game, it recaps what happens the last time you played. We found this to be a little upsetting. There are over 80 cars, including boats, motorcycles, mopeds, sport cars, police cars and more cars. Most of the game play is driving, shooting, chasing, and more shooting. And there are three modes in this game. In the 1st you go undercover in the story mode. In the 2nd one is take a ride and for those of you how ever played Tony Hawk or Streets of L.A., you'll understand what this is. You basically just ride around, drive fast or slow, pick up on your skills and try not to get pulled over by the police (like any other day). The last mode is the driving games mode. This is just a series of games that you can play for fun.Driv3er is available now on the Playstation 2 and X-Box.

Madden 2005: A Review by Everett Eazy Street

After 15 years in the game, EA Sports and John Madden still have a winning combination in their hands. With the release of Madden 2005 for all major systems including the PC, the game all ready has gone gold, selling more than 500,000 copies in pre-orders alone. We even heard that in local game stores people who didn't pre-order couldn't get their copies until 2 days after the game was released. One of the big reasons is that this is the 15 Anniversary of the series and that EA has released a special Madden 2005 collector's edition of the game only for the ps2. The difference is that not only will you will be able to play the instant classic game, you can also play 3 older versions of the game, one for the NES and 2 others versions that came out for the PS1. Also, the collectors edition includes video of the making of Madden and its history, playable Madden moments, trivia, and much more.
On the features side of things, Madden NFL 2005 is the best it's ever been. The franchise mode has a big, new presentational change with addition of a weekly newspaper, email, and sports radio host Tony Bruno, the EA Sports Radio show host. By listening to the show, you'll hear interviews with players and coaches, hear Tony take calls from smart and idiotic fans, and hear little things happening around the NFL.
Madden NFL 2005's offensive game isn't really all that different from Madden NFL 2004, but there are some differences here and there. You can now make formation shifts on the line. You can move your running back out of the backfield and into a better position for the reception, or you can overload one side of the field with receivers. You'll also notice some new option routes for receivers in this year's game. Option routes are typically highlighted on the play calling screen and feature dotted lines coming off of a curl route, for example. These lines indicate possible directions that a receiver may run, depending on that receiver's assessment of the current coverage scheme. The intelligence of the receivers who are running these routes seems to vary depending on the quality of the player, but, as a whole, the feature seems to work well.
A big-time addition is the new defensive hot route system. You can now redesign a defensive player's assignment at the touch of a button. You can push a linebacker into deeper zone coverage or bring a safety in for the blitz. You can also give better pre-snap assignments to your defensive backs now. Individual presses and pullbacks on receivers can be performed, and you can also lock a corner on to a specific receiver, preventing mismatches. Finally, you can now also adjust how a defensive lineman attacks the offensive line without actually having to shift your whole line. What all of this amounts to is a far more user-configurable defense that actually makes playing defense much more enjoyable and strategic.

NBA Ballers: Let The Ballers Ball by Eazy Street

Midway, the makers of NBA Jam and NFL Blitz, is now bringing you a video game that takes you into the lifestyle of a NBA superstar. NBA BALLERS is a one-on-one arcade style game that takes you through the ranks of being the "greatest baller of all time." That’s right, go from having nothing but a fish sandwich and some flip-flops, to having cars, ice, tattoos, and anything else that makes a baller fly. This is a creative idea, instead of just being able to win a NBA championship, you get to see what comes after that. NBA Ballers offers you over 60+ NBA players and 24 NBA Legends. Don’t worry you create your own player so if you want to ball against big Shaq or Walt Frazier you can. This game includes multiple game modes such as rags to riches. This is a story mode where you go from having nothing and work your way up to the big leagues by playing street ball matches. You then go on a reality show called NBA Ballers: Rags-To-Riches and win fame and fortune. There is also the TV tournament mode. This is a collection of matches that are broken up into competition ladders that feature several different players for you to compete against, including a "boss." Each ladder is themed and features its own set of rules for competitions. Some ladders put you in one-on-one matches while others throw more players into the mix to keep things fresh. NBA Ballers will be available on the Playstation 2 and X-Box platforms in April 2004.
